Gone but not forgotten
Small batch single malt
Cragganmore Distillery
Quite the traveler, Cragganmore is recognized around the world. From a small farm in Ballindalloch, Banffshire, to a bar shelf in Hong Kong and many more elsewhere, it’s come a long way since its foundations were laid in 1870.
For years one of Diageo’s core and ubiquitous single malts, representing the Speyside region, Cragganmore has developed a stellar reputation during its time in the limelight. Such is its prominence that it has arguably helped shape the perception of the ‘Speyside’ style, albeit atypical in many ways, in our opinion at least. Maybe not so helpful?
Anyway, what it does represent is that very distinctive meaty/sulfury style produced by a handful of others in the region. Very similar to – and, in fact, interchangeable with – Dailuaine, it can often display an amazing cheesecake character and a real meaty mouthful.
Cragganmore is as established as they come and it’s a pleasure to have a handful of casks come through the warehouse now and again. A rare event these days, unfortunately.

Speyside single malts are single malt Scotch whiskies, distilled in Strathspey, the area around the River Spey in Moray and Badenoch and Strathspey, in northeastern Scotland. Although generalized, known as a region that produces delicate and fruity whisky, many styles are produced here. Almost half of Scotland's distilleries are situated here, on the banks of the United Kingdom's fastest flowing river.
